Ruth Corry is a harpist from Belfast with a passion for composing emotive, soothing and atmospheric music. Ruth’s most recent album, ‘Where the Light Is’ draws inspiration from nature, blending elements of folk, classical and ambient music to create a peaceful and uplifting listening experience.

Ruth began playing the harp at the age of 9 and was a member of the Irish Harp Orchestra. She has toured Germany, performing in the Munich and Cologne Philharmonic Halls and performed with Alfie Boe at the Titanic Commemoration Concert in 2012 in The Waterfront Hall, Belfast which was broadcast live on BBC Two. She toured to Malta as a soloist for St Patrick’s Day Celebrations in 2016.

Ruth recently performed in Dublin Castle with Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Michael D. Higgins in attendance and has performed for the President of Ireland on two occasions. Ruth performed in the Museum of Literature Ireland for an EU Presidency Event, in Dublin City Hall for Heritage Week, for the 20th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement in Titanic Hotel Belfast and gave a harp recital in the Linen Hall Library, Belfast for the 220th Anniversary of the Belfast Harp Festival.

Ruth won first place at the Antrim and Ulster Fleadh and first place at the Granard Harp Festival. She has performed live on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio Ulster. She was resident harpist of The Culloden Estate and Spa for 3 years and performed at the Freedom of the Borough events for Gary Lightbody and Rhys McClenaghan. She performed ‘My Lagan Love’ at the funeral of the late Northern Irish actor, James Ellis and has performed in venues such as Belfast Cathedral, Hillsborough Castle, Belfast Harbour Commissioners Office, Titanic Belfast, The MAC Belfast, Ulster Museum, Mount Stewart and in the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum for Harp Day in 2018.

Ruth graduated with a BA (Hons) in Music from Durham University where she achieved a First Class in her final recital. She is particularly passionate about Music as Therapy and the healing, calming qualities of the harp. Through both performance and composition, Ruth loves to share music that brings joy, peace, and comfort, creating space for reflection, connection, and hope.

Ruth regularly performs for weddings and events and also works as a musician on behalf on Music in Hospitals & Care, a charity that improves the health and wellbeing of children and adults through the healing power of live music. She is the founder and director of Sky Harp Ensemble and a member of Willow Moon Duo with Rachel O’Connor.

Ruth is a qualified teacher, having completed her PGCE in Primary Teaching at Durham University after her Music Degree. Passionate about Music Education, she teaches harp to a number of students of all ages and provides regular performance opportunities for them.
